CREATIVE FEATURE-FILMS

Tchindas

In 1998, Tchinda was interviewed by a local weekly newspaper. This was the only time that she shared her story, but it was enough to spread her name all around Cabo Verde, even in islands that she never stepped in. Now, ‘Tchinda’ is a common name, the way in which their inhabitants refer to gay and trans people.

Since then, unintentionally, she became a myth, one of the most well-known women in this archipelago 500km from Senegal. Tchinda is 35 years old and has gained the respect of her neighbours, occasionally by force, as testified by the scar in her nose.

She has the qualities of a leader, she is relentless and fascinating. A woman of action, capable of bringing a whole neighbourhood together and with a life so intense that she deserves to be the first black and African trans to reach the screens.

Fuente Álamo, la caricia del tiempo

Life goes by in a summer day at Fuente Álamo. The light, the sounds, the hours pass, from sunrise to the night, recorded by a hidden observer, imperceptible and discreet, who caresses the ordinary events in the lives of the boys and the girls, of grandma María, of the girls in the shoe factory, of Pedro and Guillermo, two comrades. And at the end of the day comes the “gazpachos” party. A different real story and a reflection of the passage of time.

La camisa de Christa Leem

In the mid-70s, Christa Leem reinvented an art. Before her, many others had taken off their clothes and, as the Francoist regime was nearing its death, other vedettes, actresses, singers, celebrities and contenders jumped the repressive fence of national Catholicism and showed the forbidden fruit for the joy of the repressed citizens. But Christa showed us her naked body, white, light and premature, to reveal much more: a transparent and free soul.

“I like to live my life, to live it at its fullest; I enjoy seeing it, be it on the street, at home, at work, with friends, alone, with my dogs, at the beach, at the countryside, on a plane, on a train, in a car, in a Vespino, anywhere... I enjoy life.”
